Ideal Institute is a private nonprofit based in Florianopolis, State of Santa Catarina, Brazil. Ideal Institute is an institution that promotes renewable energy and the development of policies for energy integration in Latin America. Ideal conducts three major areas of expertise: the Eco_Lógicas Contest, the Cleaner Energy Seminar, and América do Sol. They all include a number of initiatives free of charge.
By promoting events and encouraging research and actions for renewable energy, Ideal Institute is strengthened as a link between government, academia, and companies, as well as a reference in the energy sector. The search for an energy matrix that is diversified and integrated throughout Latin America is what drives this Brazilian organization.
With the support of companies from different countries who believe in the importance of investing in renewable sources and the establishment of an academic and scientific cooperation protocol with Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), Ideal plans to expand its range of activities.
Ideal was created in February 2007 in Florianopolis, State of Santa Catarina, Brazil, by the President of the organization Mauro Passos and other founding partners. Since its establishment, the organization aims at the continental process of sustainable development that encompasses environment and climatic variations, as well as energy efficiency.
Santa Catarina state capital was chosen as the headquarters of the organization for having recognized excellence in higher education and for concentrating three major electric utilities: Eletrosul, Tractebel Energia, and Celesc. Furthermore, the city has a strategic position in Latin America and is considered the capital of Mercosur.
